Wisdom Tooth Removal in Point Cook
Essentially a rite of passage, having wisdom teeth removed is something nearly everyone goes through in their life.
Here’s more about what you can expect.
All About Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth usually begin developing in the teenage years and may continue into a person’s late 20s. This third set of molars may never cause any problems, or could require removal due to complications.
We will determine if your wisdom teeth are healthy and properly positioned. Not everyone will need to have their wisdom teeth removed, but some people may due to reasons such as:
- Pain or discomfort
- Impaction
- Cysts or tumours
- Crowding from wisdom teeth
- Gum disease
- Damage to adjacent teeth
- Tooth decay that is not restorable
Removing your wisdom teeth may also be an important step in periodontal therapy or orthodontic treatments. If removal is necessary, we will discuss sedation choices to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
What to Expect
Your experienced dentist will conduct a thorough examination and make a referral for full-mouth OPG X-rays. If there is any infection, we will have you take antibiotics for a few days before your procedure.
For your extraction, we will complete the procedure in the clinic under local anaesthetic. We also offer nitrous oxide for our more anxious patients. The downtime is usually just a couple of days. We’ll give you a call after your surgery to make sure you’re feeling good, and we’ll have you back in to remove the sutures in about a week.
