Dental Implants in Point Cook
At Sanctuary Lakes Family Dental, our experienced team offers a wide array of services to help you create and maintain your desired smile. Although we focus on preventative care and helping you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime, dental implants are the gold standard when a tooth needs replacement. This is just one of many restorative dental procedures we offer to help keep you smiling your brightest!
What Are They?
A dental implant is used to replace a missing tooth (or multiple teeth). A titanium screw is surgically placed in the jawbone, where it fuses with your natural bone. Once it has healed, a crown is placed over the implant to replace the missing tooth.
What to Expect
We begin with a thorough consultation and examination to determine if an implant is the right approach for your situation. Patients must be generally healthy and have sufficient jawbone to support the implant. We’ll use full mouth X-rays and MRIs to assess your situation and to plan the procedure.
On the day, we will place your implants under local anaesthesia (we also have nitrous oxide for our anxious patients). Downtime is minimal, and you should return to work within a few days. It takes about three months for the implant to heal completely. At that point, we’ll bring you back to create and place your crown.
Depending on your specific situation, there may be a total of three to five visits to complete the process. In complicated cases, we will bring in an oral surgeon to perform the surgery.
Caring for Your New Teeth
We recommend brushing and flossing just as you care for your natural teeth, and it’s important to maintain your regular dental checkups to ensure your restorations last as long as possible.
